| | These are a set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for VHDL Simili
that we have compiled. This FAQ is intended to answer questions about
VHDL Simili, present some tips and
tricks, etc. You can also
visit our customer support site to
get more information or to ask a question.
You can also check out other valuable resources
available on the WWW -- http://www.vhdl.org, news://comp.lang.vhdl, the
famous VHDL FAQ, http://www.ieee.org, etc.
- Is VHDL Simili available on any
other (non-x86) platforms?
- What are the differences
between the free, standard and professional editions?
- Do you support the VHDL-87 standard?
- Where can I order VHDL Simili?
Can I order a CD-ROM?
- Are there any constructs that you do not support in the VHDL-93 standard?
- Are there any constructs in the 1164 standard that you do not support?
- What versions of
Vital/SDF standards are supported?
- What vendor libraries are supported?
- Is Verilog going to be supported? What about
Verilog?
- Is VHDL Simili available on any
other (non-x86) platforms?
No, not in the very near future. For us, the reasons are cost and focus. All
of our technology and implementation is portable but most non-Intel
platforms' cost prohibits us to even try. We intend to focus first on our
largest user community -- the Intel platform users. If demand exists and any
opportunities present itself, we may be willing to support Sparc-Solaris
platform.
- What are the differences between
the free, standard and professional editions?
Click here to see a comparison.
- Do you support the VHDL-87 standard?
VHDL Simili only supports VHDL 93
standard. In most cases, the syntax and semantics of VHDL 93 are a
super set of VHDL 87. We do however support VHDL 87 style FILE
declarations using the -87 command line flag.
- Where can I order VHDL Simili?
Can I order a CD-ROM?
You can't order a CD-ROM. To keep the overhead low, the Internet is the ONLY medium by
which VHDL Simili is made
available. We have designed VHDL Simili
with a very small footprint to enable us to do this.
- Are there any constructs that you do not support in the VHDL-93 standard?
Yes, we have a very small set of constructs that we do not yet support. We have
documented the list of unsupported constructs here.
- Are there any constructs in the 1164 standard that you do not support?
All 1164 constructs are supported both in the accelerated and raw forms.
- What versions of Vital/SDF standards are supported?
VITAL-95/VITAL-2000 (IEEE 1076.4) is the standard natively supported by VHDL Simili.
However, other versions of the VITAL libraries can be simply be compiled
and simulated (without acceleration). For back-annotation, SDF versions 2.1,
3.0 and 4.0 are supported.
- What vendor libraries are supported?
Any vendor who provides VHDL-93/Vital-95 compatible models is compatible
with VHDL Simili. We intend to
have pre-compiled libraries (or scripts to compile their libraries) for all PLD/FPGA vendors as well as
synthesis libraries. We do not ship vendor's
libraries since they change so frequently. We ship scripts to compile most
popular vendor libraries. For most vendors, we perform internal QA
to ensure that the compiler/simulator simulates the vendor libraries
correctly.
- Is Verilog going to be supported? What about
Verilog?
Yes, Verilog support is in our plans....stay tuned.
